According to the Darwin Weather Bureau the Top End will continue to see an easing of monsoonal conditions over the coming days, with much lower rainfall totals than during the past week.

A tropical low is developing near the southern coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria and is expected to move over Gulf waters later this week.

There is a moderate chance of the developing system forming into a tropical cyclone over the weekend.

The Bureau says it will be monitoring the tropical low around the clock and will provide ongoing updates.

It's too early to say which direction the tropical cyclone will move in if it does form in the Gulf od Carpentaria but Darwin is not under a cyclone threat from the current system in the Gulf.
