| ESPN apologises for racist headline |

Jeremy Lin's sudden emergence in the NBA has triggered a lot of headlines and catch-phrases in these past few weeks. The Taiwanese-American point-guard, the first of his nationality to play in the world's premier basketball competition, has been setting the courts alight with some dazzling performances. The terms 'Linsanity', 'Linsane', and 'Super Lintendo', have been coined with the sincerest of affection towards the sports' newest superstar. However, following the New York Knicks first loss since promoting Lin to starting point guard, in which he committed nine turnovers, the self-proclaimed World Wide Leader in Sports posted the above headline to it's mobile homepage. The Asian epithet - which is meant differently in the context of that phrase - was removed after only half an hour, followed by ESPN releasing the following statement: Last night, ESPN.com’s mobile web site posted an offensive headline referencing Jeremy Lin at 2:30 am ET. The headline was removed at 3:05 am ET. We are conducting a complete review of our cross-platform editorial procedures and are determining appropriate disciplinary action to ensure this does not happen again. We regret and apologize for this mistake. The Knicks had won seven straight games heading into last night's contest, with Lin's record-breaking play earning praise around the country. |
