Chief Minister Michael Gunner and Opposition Leader Gary Higgins on same-sex marriage postal plebiscite

Chief Minister Michael Gunner and Opposition Leader Gary Higgins joined Katie Woolf on 360 this morning discussing the Turnbull goverments decision to vote on same-sex marriage through a postal plebiscite.

The Turnbull government has confirmed, Australians will be asked to vote on same-sex marriage through a postal plebiscite, provided the Senate once again knocks back its plan for a compulsory national poll.

The Chief Minister said he thought this decision for a postal plebiscite was not the right path to take. 

Leader of the Opposition Gary Higgins said he supports same sex marriage but also respects the fact the Federal Government campaigned on a platform of a a plebiscite.

Friday saw the declaration of candidates for the 2017 NT Council election. Alice Springs has the most candidates for Alderman with 19 nominations for eight vacancies.  A record number of 15 candidates for Lord Mayor of Darwin were announced. 

Michael Gunner told Katie Woolf on 360 that he knows he can work with the candidates, specifically Kon Vatskalis, Katrina Fong Lim or Simon Niblock.
