The Government continues to defend their handling of Youth Crime

Katie Woolf was joined by the Police Minister and Deputy Minister Nicole Manison this morning..

Katie went straight to the heart of what Territorians are currently feeling “Right now, what we are hearing from yourself, the Chief Minister and the rest of the cabinet is that there are additional police, there are consequences when youths break the law, the changes to the Youth Justice Act do not impact victims negatively and Diversion is an adequate way to deal with youths breaking the law. Meanwhile, the community is saying they have had enough, you aren’t listening and something seriously needs to change. Are you saying the community just needs to be patient?

Minister Manison replied with “I’m saying we don’t have a perfect system…….But the Northern Territory has never been a place free of crime everyday”.
