Applications are now open for NT security guards at bottle shops to equip themselves with OC Spray (also known as Pepper Spray).
The Territory Government says it will allow for another layer of protection for workers as well as shoppers.
Only private security guards who have completed the mandatory training and have been approved by the Commissioner will be allowed to carry the spray while on duty.
Applicants must also have completed the nationally accredited “Defend Using Spray” course within the past six months, and also hold the correct first aid qualifications.
The measure is the latest in the NT Government’s $570 million investment in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour.
