A cyclone warning has been issued for parts of the Northern Territory after TC Ellie crossed the coast last night.
The Category One system made landfall southwest of Daly River Mouth and is expected to track southwards across the southern Daly District inland from the coast and weaken below cyclone strength by midday.
The Bureau of Meteorology says heavy rainfall is expected and gales with gusts up to 100 kiliometers per hour will be felt.
Tides will also be higher than normal between Dundee Beach and Wyndham.
Large waves may produce minor flooding of low-lying coastal areas today.
TC Ellie will continue to track southwards towards the WA/NT border over the weekend but is expected to weaken to a tropical low later this afternoon.
