A man will face court accused of using a syringe to rob a Darwin taxi driver.

Police say the cabbie picked up the 28-year-old who then threatened him with the empty syringe before making off with a small amount of cash.

"Police attended and the offender was arrested on Termansen Street by Strike Force Trident members with assistance from the Dog Operation Unit," Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Day said.

He was charged with aggravated robbery and will appear in Darwin Local Court on Friday.
