NT cops urge dob in a fire bug
Territory emergency crews are calling on residents in total fire ban zones to be on the look out for arsonists as the Top End's fire danger rating expected to reach its peak today.
There's a total fire ban in place for Darwin, Batchelor, Adelaide River, Pine Creek, Katherine Emergency Response Areas, the Litchfield Municipality and Coomalie Shire.
The NT Bureau of Meteorology has upgraded its fire danger warning in Darwin, the Adelaide River region and Northern Fire Protection Zone to extreme.
Forecasters say Batchelor is expected to experience the worst of the conditions.
"These dangerous fire weather conditions are being caused by gusty southeast winds that bring hot and dry air over the Top End from central Australia. Winds will ease over the weekend however it will remain hot and dry, therefore fire weather conditions are expected to persist over the weekend and possibly early next week, particularly in the Darwin and Adelaide fire forecast area. Temperatures in the parts of the Darwin Rural area could reach 38C during the rest of the week, while temperatures in other parts of the western Top End are also expected to reach the mid-30s", said BoM Manager of Weather Services Ben Suter.
The fire danger warning could be extended through until the weekend.
