Vic man jailed for sex with underage girl

A Melbourne man has been jailed after admitting having sex with a 14-year-old girl while high on drugs.

Alexander Smilevski, 27, was on Thursday sentenced to three years in prison after earlier pleading guilty to two counts of sexual penetration of a child under 16.

Smilevski knew she was under age when he began a sexual relationship with her, Victorian County Court judge Sandra Davis said.

"You were nearly twice her age," she said.

"She was introduced to you as a family friend and you were told she was 12."

Judge Davis said Smilevski's conduct was not spontaneous and he had arranged to meet the girl on several occasions using Facebook messenger.

"You showed a complete lack of regard for her welfare," she said.

"It's a concern that your conduct occurred over a number of months."

The 27-year-old had also given the girl ice and GHB, which the pair used together before having sex.

Smilevski told a psychologist there were no excuses for his behaviour, according to a report tendered to court.

He also acknowledged the girl was not an adult and could not make informed decisions like he could.

Smilevski said the drugs he was using at the time made him "lose all inhibitions and hypersexual".

"The psychologist noted you expressed shame and regret," Judge Davis said.

"Your remorse demonstrates some self awareness."

Smilevski was originally charged with 11 offences and due to stand trial but pleaded guilty to two charges as part of a plea deal in May.

The maximum penalty for sexual penetration of a child under 16 in Victoria is 10 years' imprisonment.

Smilevski must serve at least two-and-a-half years before being eligible for parole.

As a result of his convictions, Smilevski will be subject to reporting conditions as a registered sex offender for life.
