Australian plane now in Strait of Hormuz
Australia has deployed a surveillance plane to defend oil tankers from Iranian attacks in the Strait of Hormuz.
The plane was sent to the Middle East earlier this month and will remain there until mid-November, Defence chief Angus Campbell told a Senate estimates hearing on Wednesday.
General Campbell expects to send between five and 10 Australian personnel to campaign headquarters for the US-led mission in the Persian Gulf, with a frigate beginning a six-month mission in January 2020.
