RDH at full capacity, with patients waiting more than 8 hours for care, says AMA – but no code yellows have been called under the CLP

Australian Medical Association’s NT Branch President Dr John Zorbas says Royal Darwin Hospital is at full capacity and there have not been enough beds since 2016.

Despite that no code yellows have been called since the CLP came to power, with 11 internal emergencies declared under Labor in the 2023/2024 financial year.

Dr Zorbas told Katie Woolf patients are waiting more than 8 hours to get the care they need on a daily basis, which is a major problem in the emergency department.

He says new units and wards will help ease pressures on the health system, but more Federal funding is needed, suggesting the NT government also listen to frontline staff.
