Person with shopping trolley full of fireworks trying to light it with a gas torch in Darwin and crews called to 180 fires on Territory Day

Chief Fire Officer Stephen Sewell and Bushfires NT Incident Controller Mark Williams say there were 180 fires during Territory Day celebrations, mostly grass fires, a few bin fires and three building fires including a home that was completely destroyed in Humpty Doo.
They told Katie Woolf resources were tied up for some time battling blazes along Radford Road in Zuccoli, at Gunn Point and Casuarina Coastal Reserve, adding that some people were letting crackers off right after crews extinguished fires.
Chief Fire Officer Stephen Sewell says there was also someone with a shopping trolley full of fireworks who was trying to light it with a gas torch at Darwin Esplanade.
