Local Government Election Coverage with Katie Woolf – Darwin Lord Mayor Candidates

Thirteen candidates have nominated to become Darwin’s next Lord Mayor in the Local Government Elections and Katie Woolf speaks to some of the contenders to find out why they are running and what they promise to deliver.

Incumbent Lord Mayor of Darwin Kon Vatskalis says he’s got unfinished business, flagging he’s keen to upgrade the Childcare Centres in Karama and Casuarina, put more lighting on ovals and continue community events like family days and the Christmas pageant and offer council land to the NT Government for a nursing home.

Darwin Lord Mayor candidate Sam Weston says after being on Council for two years, he’s ready to take the next step and is vying to become Mayor, promising transparency, more trees, upgrades to footpaths, scrapping Saturday parking fees and revitalising the Darwin mall.

Darwin Lord Mayor candidate Julie Fraser says she wants to see positive change for Darwin including more community consultation and is promising to future proof the city through sustainable infrastructure, greater adoption of renewable energy and development that grows the economy.
