Man faces court on 11 charges including serious DV offences

A 33-year-old man has faced Darwin Local Court charged with 11 offences, including serious domestic violence and traffic offences.

The man allegedly made violent threats against a woman, known to him, at a residence in Wanguri on Sunday morning.

An arrest plan was formulated and around 2.00pm, officers located the man driving a damaged vehicle near the Shoal Bay Waste Management Facility.

A pursuit was initiated, and the vehicle was safely apprehended in an open area on the outbound lane of the Stuart Highway, Knuckey Lagoon.

Police say the man fled the vehicle on foot and was promptly arrested.

No injuries were reported.

Acting Commander Kirsten Engels has thanked the members involved for the apprehension.

“I would like to commend the members involved in this apprehension. Their actions have almost certainly prevented a serious domestic violence incident from occurring.”

The man remains in custody and has now been charged with:

Threat to burn or explode
Use carriage service to harass
Aggravated burglary
Damage to property x 2
Driving vehicle dangerous manner
Recklessly endangering serious harm
Drive a motor vehicle while disqualified
Drive with prohibited drug in body
Possess thing used to administer drug
Drug possession
