Territory schools will now be required to play and sing the Australian National Anthem.
The NT Government has announced a new policy mandating the Anthem be played during school assemblies.
The policy states both verses of the anthem must be used, and it should be performed in English.
Minister for Education and Training, Jo Hersey, says it will instill a sense of national pride in students.
“We are Australian, and in the Northern Territory students will be taught what it means to be an Australian and to be proud of their Country,” she says.
“Singing our unifying National Anthem is mandatory, Welcome to Country practices remain the same and at the discretion of individual schools.”
