One of the more unusual comedies arriving later this year has unveiled its first trailer, with Domhnall Gleeson taking centre stage in the Sundance Film Festival favourite The Incomer. The film pairs humour with heart, transporting audiences to a remote Scottish island where tradition, isolation, and modern bureaucracy collide.
The story follows Daniel, a Scottish government employee tasked with removing two siblings from the island they’ve called home their entire lives. Those siblings, played by Gayle Rankin and Grant O’Rourke, live largely off the land and remain deeply connected to their family history and the rugged landscape around them.
What begins as an official assignment quickly becomes something far more complicated. As Daniel spends time with the pair, he starts to develop a greater understanding of their way of life and finds himself caught between government expectations and his growing sympathy for the islanders.
Directed by Louis Paxton in his feature directorial debut, the film premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where it earned the NEXT Innovator Award and generated positive buzz for its blend of whimsy, comedy and contemporary themes.
The supporting cast includes Emun Elliott, Michelle Gomez and John Hannah. With its picturesque Scottish setting and offbeat premise, The Incomer looks set to appeal to fans of character-driven comedies that mix laughs with a little emotional depth.
The Incomer is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 25 September.
