It was an emotional morning in the studio, when Council of the Aging CEO Sue Shearer joined Katie Woolf in the studio this morning ahead of historical legislation being introduced into the NT Legislative Assembly.

30 years after the laws were overturned by the Commonwealth Government, Rights of the Terminally Ill bill was officially introduced into Parliament and will be passed with the majority of NT MLAs to vote in its favour in August when it is debated.

Ms Shearer said she was proud to have pushed strongly to ensure terminally ill Territorians will have a choice.

Not everyone is supportive of the bill, with the Australian Christian Lobby – long opposed to voluntary assisted dying – has pledged to continue fighting against its introduction in the Territory “to the bitter end”.
