A man has died after a police operation in Darwin’s rural area.
Strike Force Trident officers intercepted a stolen car travelling from Adelaide River on midday Wednesday.
The 43-year-old offender dumped the car on the corner of the Stuart Highway and Colton Road, before stealing another care and then abandoning it in the Acacia Quarry.
The man fled the scene on foot, but made several self-harm attempts when police located him.
An officer deployed a taser in an attempt to prevent the man from further harming himself, and immediate first aid was provided with St John Ambulance arriving at the scene shortly after.
The man was declared dead at the scene, and it is believed he died of a self-inflicted wound.
Investigations into the man’s death are continuing.
