Advocate Andrew Denton says Territorians are unhappy with the time it’s taking for VAD laws to be passed in the NT, providing end-of-life choice

Go Gentle Australia’s founding director Andrew Denton says there was a large turn out at a forum on voluntary assisted dying in Darwin last night, with many unhappy about how long it is taking for legislation to be passed reinstating euthanasia in the NT, which it had more than 20 years ago.

He told Katie Woolf there were stories shared about the damage that has been done in the absence of voluntary assisted dying laws regarding people’s deterioration in their final days of life.

Mr Denton says it is about giving Territorians choice, adding that half of the 8,000 Aussies who have gotten the medication don’t actually end up using it.
