Alice Springs MLA welcome new public safety police, who will carry guns, saying it is necessary for protection and public safety

Member for Araluen Robyn Lambley says it was inevitable auxiliary liquor inspectors and transit safety and public housing officers would eventually be upgraded to police given the ongoing issues with crime and anti-social behaviour.
She told Katie Woolf some people may be concerned about the Police Public Safety Officers carrying guns but things have evolved to a point where it is needed to protect themselves and the public.
Ms Lambley says she also knows the woman who was allegedly assaulted by a 24-year-old man outside of the Commonwealth Bank in Alice Springs, adding that she is doing ok but was holding her little baby at the time of the assault.
