Peak body for doctors welcomes vaping restrictions but warns of ‘black market explosion’

AMA NT President Dr Robert Parker has welcomed the Federal Government’s move to restrict access to vapes, saying widespread use among young people is concerning and the industry is highly unregulated.

The Federal Government is expected to pass a bill this week that will see vapes only sold at pharmacies, with products limited to regulated, plain-packaged nicotine vapes with menthol or tobacco flavouring.

Dr Parker told Katie Woolf the measures would make it harder for kids to get their hand on vapes but pharmacists aren’t happy about being turned into vape retailers.

He also warns it will lead to an “explosion of black market issues” and potentially crime.
