Chief Minister defends decision to make no changes after bail and weapon review

Chief Minister Natasha Fyles has defended the government’s decision to make ‘no changes’ following a review into bail and weapon offences in the NT.

She told Katie Woolf the presumption against bail for serious violent offences announced in the wake of Declan Laverty’s death and the new knife crime strategy aim to prevent more lives being lost.

Ms Fyles says police will be able to wand people checking for weapons in high-risk areas like bottle shops, transit hubs and Darwin’s Mitchell Street when the legislation passes through parliament.
