Chief Minister flags changes to rein in costs of coronial inquests and enhance efficiency after Walker inquest cost taxpayers $7.4 million

Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro has flagged changes to rein in the costs of coronial inquests and ensure they are conducted more efficiently after the long-running inquest into the death of Kumanjayi Walker cost taxpayers $7.4 million.
The Chief told Katie Woolf she visited the Katherine Coffee Club on the weekend after multiple staff assaults and thefts, saying the government is looking at what more can be done to reduce crime in the town.
Asked about concerns the Palmerston watch house is overflowing, Ms Finocchiaro says she makes no apology for locking offenders up, adding that G4S contractors are helping with staffing pressures with police public safety officers also starting at the end of the year.
