Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro reflects on the government’s first year in office in an extended interview with Katie Woolf

Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro outlines some of the government’s achievements during its first year in office, pointing to a drop in the number of victims, increase in the number of people locked up and improvements in crime stats.
Asked about push back from the community and criticism from Land Councils, the Chief rejected suggestions the CLP’s policies are race based, saying the government has been in crisis mode, acting with urgency to deliver major reforms on law and order.
Regarding the NT Police Association’s annual conference Ms Finocchiaro says she didn’t leave early as some media reported and apologised for not doing a press conference, adding that she welcomes feedback from police on what is and is not working.
The Chief also told Katie Woolf the law and order changes are linked to rebuilding the economy and outlined key achievements in lifting the payroll tax-free threshold for small businesses, the appointment of a Territory Coordinator and support for key industries and tourism.
