Chief Minister sheds more light on OC spray trial, adding the CLP’s changes are reducing crime, with a taskforce reviewing remand numbers

Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro says licensed firearm dealers will sell OC spray when the trial begins, with NT police working through safeguards and firming up details of how the roll out will work.
She told Katie Woolf the CLP’s legislation changes are slowly reducing crime, but there is more work to do, adding that a taskforce has also been established to review the number of people on remand.
Asked about further calls for an independent investigation into two deaths in custody, with letters to be delivered to parliament house, Ms Finocchiaro said NT Police and the NT Coroner will investigate as is normal practice in every jurisdiction, adding that the ongoing debate is politically-fuelled.
