Chief Minister to consider curfew for Darwin’s northern suburbs after youth crime spree

Chief Minister Eva Lawler says there are no plans to bring back mandatory sentencing for domestic violence offences after a man was charged with murdering his partner, rape and breaching a DVO on the weekend.

The Chief told Katie Woolf she is meeting with the Police Commissioner this morning, suggesting a curfew may be needed in the northern suburbs after 10 youths broke into a shopping centre and fast food outlet.

Ms Lawler says $170,000 has been earmarked for the Anti-Discrimination Commission to conduct a racism review with the NT Police Force, rejecting suggestions it should be funded out of the Police operational budget.

The Chief also announced land for student accommodation in the city, that is set to house 350 students.
