Chief provides prison update and reveals NT ICAC, costing $7m per year, isn’t operating properly
Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro says pressure on the prison system will start to ease when the new youth detention centre opens in a couple of weeks, with low-security male prisoners moving into Don Dale.
In regards to corrections officers threatening to take industrial action, the Chief told Katie Woolf contingency plans are in place with police also well prepared.
Ms Finocchiaro says creating a Territory Coordinator is vital to rebuilding the economy and delivering major projects, outlining it will streamline approvals and prevent duplications.
Asked about the effectiveness of the NT ICAC, the Chief acknowledged the agency, costing $7 million a year, is not operating properly.
