Chief says funding will continue for security patrols in Darwin CBD and Council should chip in

Chief Minister Eva Lawler says the Attorney General and NT Chief Justice need to have talks after the Supreme Court could not overturn a decision from the Local Court which saw a man fined and not convicted over an assault that left the victim with multiple spinal fractures.

The Chief also told Katie Woolf she will backflip on government commitments if they are backed by common sense like repurposing Don Dale into an interim adult prison when the new youth detention centre opens, instead of knocking it down.

Ms Lawler says the government will also continue to fund security in Darwin CBD in addition to 200 extra police officers, adding that the City of Darwin should also chip in.
