Chief supports calls for review of Commonwealth laws around ‘traditional practices’ when sentencing and sheds light on OC Spray trial
Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro says there should be review of Commonwealth laws intending to protect Aboriginal women by ensuring traditional practices could not be taken into account when sentencing domestic violence offenders following comments by Chief Justice Michael Grant.
The Chief told Katie Woolf Territorians over 18 will have to complete a declaration to be able to buy OC Spray from nine participating firearms dealers from September 1st.
Asked about concerns raised by NT COGSO that school power bills are soaring after electricity pricing reforms took effect, Ms Finocchiaro says the Education Department will pay for the price increases and there won’t be cuts to student resources.
