Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro has criticised the government’s decision to repurpose the current Don Dale Youth Detention Centre into an interim facility for adult inmates once the new youth prison opens.

She told Katie Woolf she doubts it’s usable having sustained significant damage in the recent riots on top of the media being not allowed in once it’s vacant.

Ms Finocchiaro says the CLP will soon release its Corrections policy and would build more jails if needed instead of repurposing aging infrastructure.
