Concerns cells are full at police watch houses impacting operations, leaving officers waiting around

NT Police Association President Nathan Finn says police are running out of cells to lock people up with officers having to wait until space becomes available as watchhouses are still being used for Corrections prisoners.

He told Katie Woolf it’s impacting police operations and he fears the situation will get worse over Christmas adding that extra court hours are being considered.

Mr Finn also revealed police officers were driven at while trying to set up tyre deflation devices to stop stolen cars in Alice Springs saying members have been left traumatized, with hot tea thrown in an officer’s face in another incident.
