Crime petition started after Declan Laverty’s death sent to scrutiny committee by CLP

Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro says she’s referred a petition, calling for tougher action on crime after Declan Laverty’s alleged murder, to a parliament scrutiny committee.

She told Katie Woolf the petition should come back to parliament for debate at the next sittings otherwise the government has blocked it.

With new knife crime laws passing parliament overnight, Ms Finocchiaro claims police will need authorisation to conduct wanding on the streets which will only be valid for 12 hours.
