Cyclone Tracy Survivors call for taxpayer’s funds for kinetic sculpture to be returned and VIP unveiling event cancelled

Cyclone Tracy survivor Antony Bullock says survivors are calling on the City of Darwin to return $300,000 in Federal funding for a kinetic sculpture at Bundilla Beach, demanding the funds be used as intended for a monument to commemorate the 50th anniversary.

Mr Bullock says they’re also pushing for Darwin’s Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis to resign over the whole debacle which has also seen survivors excluded from a VIP event to unveil the sculpture.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis responded to the concerns saying returning the funding would be a slap in the face for the Council’s Cyclone Tracy Advisory Committee, which put forward the sculpture design.

He also revealed he invited the Prime Minister to attend the VIP sculpture unveiling, which has been canceled Anthony Albanese can no longer attend.
