Darwin Ship Lift referred for investigation after increasing costs and delays, with the project past the point of no return contractually

Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro says the government is still committed to the Darwin Ship Lift project but has referred it to the Public Accounts Committee to investigate after escalating costs and delays.
Asked about a spate of crime and anti-social behaviour in Nightcliff, the Chief says there was an increased police presence in the area on the weekend but she couldn’t commit to extra security patrols.
In regards to a veteran corrections officer, who lost his eye after allegedly being attacked by an inmate with a set of crutches, Ms Finocchiaro told Katie Woolf there will be a ‘proper and thorough investigation’ into the incident.
The Chief also said the CLP’s first budget will allocate money to a number of incomplete projects inherited from Labor and will set a foundation to move forward.
