Labor supports Coroner’s recommendations from Kumanjayi Walker inquest and CLP’s move to scrap youth diversion for 13 serious offences

Opposition Leader Selena Uibo says the NT Coroner’s findings from the inquest into the death of Kumanjayi Walker have highlighted the need for more to be done to stamp out racism within the NT police force.

She told Katie Woolf Labor supports all of the 32 recommendations and will work with the NT Government to implement them.

Asked about the CLP’s move to scrap youth diversion for 13 serious offences, Ms Uibo says it seems like a reasonable step to ensure community safety and consequences for offending, noting there is some discretion for the courts and police.
