Seven candidates have put their hand up to be the next Katherine Mayor in the local government election, with Lis Clark not seeking another term after 17 years at the helm.

Katie Woolf spoke to some of the candidates to find out why they are running and what they stand for.

Katherine Mayor Candidates Joanna Holden says she’s keen to restore a disconnect between the Council and community, flagging cleaning up rubbish and vandalism, an open-door policy and good governance as her priorities.

Katherine Mayor Candidate Amanda Kingdon says she is keen to deliver open communication with residents, committing to enhance safety, deliver better waste and climate management, reign in rates and upgrade ageing infrastructure.

Katherine Mayor Candidate Mel Doyle says she’s keen to change the town’s narrative and attract more tourists, committing to enhance safety and security, do more beautification and be approachable to the community.

Katherine Mayor Candidate Anjali Palmer says she is committed to the town having stepped in to ensure ongoing access to GP services after an operator collapsed in 2020 and is promising to engage with the community, enhance safety and ensure strategic plans are well aligned with the municipality.
