Lord Mayor says $700k kinetic structure is public art, with memorial at East Point for Cyclone Tracy

It comes after backlash from survivors and the broader community as well as a petition from the Member for Fannie Bay, with some saying the monument is disrespectful and looks like something from Dr Suess or fallopian tubes.
Kon Vatskalis told Katie Woolf there was a “stuff up” with the Council’s announcement and a memorial at East Point, as suggested by the Remembering Cyclone Tracy Committee will mark the 50th anniversary.
