Member for Barkly not aware of staffer’s full criminal history after revelations of DV offending

Member for Barkly Steve Edgington says he wasn’t aware of the full criminal history of one of his electoral officers after the Australian Newspaper revealed the staffer had served time in jail for domestic violence offences and faced court 27 times in the last 4 years.

Mr Edgington, who is also the Opposition’s spokesperson for Preventing Domestic Violence, told Katie Woolf some breaches of domestic violence orders were divulged prior to his employment which related to alcohol.

Mr Edgington says he will be seeking a full criminal history check of the staffer, who was also charged with drink driving earlier this month.
