Minister for Major Events Brent Potter says the Mindil Beach firework display will be moved for the first time in 24 years and will instead be held at Darwin Waterfront.

He told Katie Woolf NT Major Events was unable to secure an authority certificate for sacred sites at Mindil from the Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority in the timeframe needed, which it hasn’t had to obtain in the past.

Mr Potter has promised the display will return to Mindil next year and says an expression of interest will open for about 15 market stall holders at the Waterfront later today.
