Minister responds to rocks being thrown at trucks in Katherine and explains changes for drink and drug drivers and extra powers for TSOs

Minister for Logistics and Infrastructure Bill Yan says police are working with local agencies in Katherine to educate and engage with kids on the dangers of throwing rocks at trucks after 11 incidents of rock throwing this week.

He told Katie Woolf transport amendments introduced to NT Parliament would allow courts to add all licence suspensions together for repeat drink and drug drivers and give Transit Safety Officers powers to act to prevent anti-social behaviour on buses.

Asked why that is necessary when Transit Officers are set to be replaced by Police Public Safety officers, Mr Yan said it will take time to transition people to PPSO roles and he hopes most of the TSOs do so, adding that a bill will be passed on urgency today to formally establish the role.
