NAAJA says Aboriginal people are fearful of police after a second death in custody and are calling for a forum to fix the justice system crisis

NAAJA Chair Theresa Roe says a lot of Aboriginal people are fearful of the police following a second death in custody and the Chief Minister needs to show leadership and reassure Territorians that police are there to serve and protect.
Ms Roe and Acting CEO Anthony Beven are calling for a forum to fix the justice system crisis bringing together the NT and Commonwealth Governments, Police, Attorney-General, Corrections and Aboriginal leaders.
They also told Katie Woolf the CLP’s tough on crime approach in locking people up isn’t reducing crime, saying a remand centre is needed and court matters need to be dealt with faster.
