NT Attorney-General hits back at NAAJA over calls to cut funding for remote policing, announcing plans for courts to sit on Saturdays

Attorney-General Marie-Clare Boothby has slammed NAAJA’s calls for the Commonwealth to cut funding for remote policing saying the suggestion is dangerous, undermines community confidence and creates uncertainty for police.
She told Katie Woolf the government is keen on ‘helpful solutions’ like those suggested by NT Legal Aid and this morning announced plans for NT courts to sit on Saturdays to ease pressure on prisons and watch houses.
Ms Boothby says legislation changes will be needed before it can happen which she will be acting on quickly, adding that efforts are also underway to appoint more judges.
