Prisoners transition to repurposed Berrimah jail and 17 new corrections officers are being sworn in

NT Corrections Commissioner Matthew Varley says 66 male prisoners have been moved into the re-purposed Berrimah jail, with another 50 set to be transferred there from Holtze by Christmas.
He told Katie Woolf prisoner number have increased by 100 in a month, which is more than he’d expected.
The Commissioner also says nine new corrections officers will be sworn-in in Darwin today followed by another eight in Alice Springs tomorrow, with 40 new recruits starting their training in January – the largest intake yet.
