Push for penalties to move on rough sleepers

Member for Fannie Bay Brent Potter is pushing for City of Darwin Council to move on rough sleepers from outside of businesses by issuing infringement notices.

With businesses left to clean up urination, faeces and other mess, Mr Potter says he wrote to council suggesting vulnerable people be offered a bed in the first instance and are moved on if issues persist.

He told Katie Woolf a strong deterrent is needed, with some remote residents sleeping rough in town to access alcohol and pokie machines.
