Rent freeze and independent bond board, among MLA’s push to improve renter’s rights in the NT

Member for Nightcliff Kat McNamara says gambling reforms are needed to protect vulnerable Territorians and she wants to see a pre-commitment or load-up system at gaming venues.

She told Katie Woolf she put forward a motion in the last sittings of parliament to improve renters’ rights saying 50 per cent of Territorians are renters and they’re facing unlimited rent increases and no-ground evictions.

Ms McNamara is suggesting a rent freeze for two years, limiting rent increases to two per cent and the establishment of an independent bond board are necessary changes to protect renters.
