Sexual offence reforms to better protect children up for debate in NT Parliament today

Attorney General Chansey Paech says the addition of two new offences being public masturbation and grooming a child to engage in sexual activity are among the reforms being debated in NT Parliament today.

He told Katie Woolf the charge of engaging in a ‘sexual relationship with child’ will also be changed to ‘repeated sexual abuse’ to acknowledge that no consent or relationship exists.

Mr Peach would not be drawn on a response when repeatedly asked if he would support parliamentary debate of the crime petition sparked in the wake of Declan Laverty’s death which yielded more than 20,000 signatures.
