Sixteen minutes is how long a crime petition with 26k signatures will be debated in NT parliament

Public Accounts Committee member Robyn Lambley says a petition calling for tougher laws and action on crime will be debated in NT parliament for all of 16 minutes next settings.

She told Katie Woolf the Member for Goyder Kezia Purick is planning to push for the petition to be made a matter of public importance, extending the debate.

Ms Lambley says if a proper debate on the petition, signed by almost 26,000 people doesn’t go ahead then there’s not much point in being in parliament.
