Students raise serious concerns over removal of counsellors from NT Government schools

Council of Government Schools NT President Tabby Fudge and Casuarina Senior College (CSC) School Captains Kezsia and Cathryn say students will not have immediate support now that counsellors have been removed from schools.

They told Katie Woolf, counsellors are vital to support students, particularly those who don’t have positive family networks.

Under the Education Department’s new model, counsellors will operate out of the Mitchell Centre using a triage system due to a nationwide shortage of the professionals.

Concerns have also been raised about the burden the move will have on teachers, with CSC launching a petition to keep counsellors in schools.
