Support thrown at Katherine High after student fights and outbursts and consultation begins on move away from middle school

Education Minister Jo Hersey says a lot of support has been thrown at Katherine High School after recent fights and outbursts through attendance and engagement officers as well as school-based constables.

She told Katie Woolf police have also conducted wanding operations at the school twice and fortunately no weapons were found.

Asked about drunks roaming the streets along Emery Avenue near a private school and early learning centre, the Minister says it’s not acceptable, staff and children deserve to feel safe adding she will follow it up with the Association of Independent Schools.

Ms Hersey also said consultation with school councils and parents about the move away from middle schools is starting this week, with the new secondary education model commencing next year.
