Treasurer Bill Yan responds to serious incidents in Katherine and Alice Springs, pointing to the government’s law reforms on mandatory sentencing, tougher consequences for offending and greater powers for police. 

Regarding the government’s home buyer scheme, he told Katie Woolf the grants can go towards a house deposit, helping first time buyers enter the market.

Mr Yan says there’s been strong interest in the grants, with applications now open.
